Review: BayCHINA Dialogue Trip 2026

Picture: © BayCHINA

This year saw the first BayCHINA dialogue trip to China. The programme included visits to various universities, research organisations and other institutions in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen.

The dialogue trip is specifically aimed at early-career researchers who wish to gain insights into the Chinese higher education and research landscape. Furthermore, it offers participants the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of the Chinese research landscape and the country’s academic, political and social context. The focus is on direct exchange with representatives from leading universities, research institutions, German organisations and political foundations in China.

At the same time, the trip provides a forum for joint discussion of current and practice-relevant issues. These include, in particular, the initiation of new collaborations with Chinese partner institutions, addressing issues of data use and research security, and the impact of political frameworks on scientific cooperation and research.
