The cross-cultural training

BayCHINA's cross-cultural training is primarily aimed at Bavarian students who are planning a semester abroad to study or do an internship in China and who would like to prepare themselves for this. The cross-cultural training imparts important information and knowledge about China, raises awareness of cultural differences and offers practical assistance for successfully coping with a stay in China.

Procedure

Through analysis of concrete case histories, group discussion and role play, representative cross-cultural problems and situations in studies, work and everyday life, which German students are often confronted with in China, are clarified and possible solutions are worked out.

Duration

The training usually takes 6 hours (including breaks in between). If the participants wish, a culinary seminar can be held afterwards on the topic of "Chinese table manners" during a joint lunch or dinner (at the participants' own expense).

Content

  • Regional and cultural information
  • Cultural Awareness
  • Cultural differences between China and Germany
  • Common problems and conflict situations in cross-cultural communication
  • Core cultural norms and values in China: relationship, indirect communication style, hierarchy, "Mian Zi" and "Guan Xi
  • Practical application in relation to studies and internships in China

Application and participation

All students who are enrolled at a Bavarian university can participate. A minimum of six participants is required for the organisation of cross-cultural awareness training. The International Offices of the Bavarian state universities or the internationalisation officers of the faculties can request a training date at any time. At locations with more than one university, joint training sessions are also possible.

We are happy to organise tailor-made awareness-raising sessions on China for non-student members/staff of the university after consultation.

No fees are charged by BayCHINA for conducting the training.
