Grants for academic theses

To encourage young academics, we support research stays in the context of academic theses related to the Chinese cultural region in the form of a mobility grant.

Funding Amount:

The maximum total funding amount is € 1,600. These can be expenses for:

• Accommodation costs (daily allowance € 10, maximum € 750)
• Travel costs (maximum up to € 850)

Who can apply?

Advanced students and postgraduates who are enrolled at Bavarian public universities and universities of applied sciences and intend to pursue a diploma (Diplomarbeit), master's (Magisterarbeit), bachelor's, master's or PhD thesis with an empirical stay in the Chinese cultural region.

• Letter of recommendation from an academic supervisor
• Project description / synopsis
• Work plan and schedule of the project
• Cost plan of the project
• Copy of the intermediate examination (Zwischenprüfung) or grade / credit overview from the examination office
• Current certificate of enrolment

Application Deadline:

Applications can generally be submitted any time, however, ideally six weeks before the start of the stay.

After returning from your stay - Next steps?

The following documents must be submitted within six months of the end of the stay:

• Proof of use → [Download template]

• Copy of entry and exit stamps (passport)
• Receipt list → [Download template]
• Original receipts (max. 850 €) for:
  • Flights (economy class)
  • Train (2nd class, in connection with arrival/departure in China)
  • Taxi (in connection with arrival/departure in China)
  • Visa
  • Health & liability insurance
  • Vaccinations
  • Accommodation costs (daily flat rate € 10, maximum € 750)

The thesis must be submitted digitally after completion as proof of the correct use of the funding.
